Meditation

Yoga is Meditation.  And Meditation is Yoga.  The second teaching of yoga from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras tells us the definition of Yoga as the 'stilling of consciousness', 'the stilling of the turning of the mind'.  And meditation is the active work we do to be in a state of union or yoga. Meditation is the direction of your awareness to your thinking mind, the observation of your thoughts in an active and alert way.  With this practice, we come to understand that we are not our thoughts and that we are something much deeper, much bigger, much greater  than any thought, any reaction, any habitual patterning of consciousness.  As we tease out this space between our thoughts and our selves, we move into the space of meditation where we experience a sense of being without doing, a sense of stillness within and unshakeable peace. This peaceful state of equanimity can be expanded through practice so it becomes a larger and more natural part of your presence.  The health benefits of meditation are being backed up by science more and more each day -- reduced stress, lower blood pressure and improved heart health to name just a few.  There is no way to get it wrong but you have to start somewhere.  Just join me in my meditation classes any time!

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian science of health and longevity. It is a sister science to yoga and meditation.  It is also called the science of truth as it is expressed in life.  Ayurveda gifts us with practices of diet, exercise and lifestyle based on our individual constitution. These practices shape our daily routine, diet, digestion, physical hygiene and mental hygiene. Based on the principle of balance, Ayurveda helps us return to homeostasis, wholeness and optimal functioning.  By looking at the individual as a whole, Ayurveda provides tangible practices on a path to vitality and joy.  As embodied beings, I believe it is our birthright to life healthfully, mindfully and energetically in our bodies -- to enjoy this great journey of life that we are on. I use Ayurveda to live fully into this great life experience and I am passionate about sharing these age-old, time-tested practices.

With their powerful fragrance, they can calm the senses, shift your mood and make you smell divine!  But the uses go beyond aroma, to more holistic forms of self care such as soothing the skin, opening up your breathing passages or cleansing the internal system. I use essential oils as my first line of defense in maintaining the health and wellbeing of myself and my family. I use oils as my first line of offense before heading to the doctor. You'll experience essential oils in many of my yoga and meditation classes.
